Located at 1507 E. Locust St. in Davenport, Café Express Deli is just a few minutes from campus. It is a small place, so it’s easy to pass by without noticing. Café Express Deli has been in business since 1987.
Café Express Deli offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, quiches, and sides. As for the sandwiches, they offer a create-your-own menu, which consists of your choice of bread, deli meats, cheeses, and condiments. Another option is to choose from the menu of the pre-created house sandwiches.
I opted for two sandwiches, one of which was “The Express” sandwich, which had ham, turkey, provolone, coleslaw, Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, tomato and pickle on the honey wheat bread.
The bread was fresh and soft and had a great flavor. I also had a large side salad and a cup of the hearty vegetable soup. My second sandwich was “The Italian,” on a sourdough sub. “The Italian” consisted of salami, pepperoni, smoked turkey, mozzarella, olive salad, tomato and onion.
The staff was friendly and Café Express Deli is a nice alternative to the usual Panera or Jimmy Johns. The food was high quality and fresh. It was also reasonably priced, as my meal was under $20.
